Music at Roddy Tree

Innkeeper Roddy Tree Ranch and Guest Cottages

Summer is an exciting time in the Hill Country. The Kerrville Folk Festival is in full swing. Tubeing, swimming and canoeing are in full swing. Here at Roddy Tree Ranch the Lazy Days Canteen is the place to be on the weekend.

Friday night is Karaoke all night. The singing begins at 8pm and lasts till closing. We have 1000 songs to choose from and everyone finds something they can sing along with. There is always a good mix of local characters as well as Ranch guests stretchin their vocal cords. Sometimes we get a good one and then others would be crucified by Simon. It's a good thing we aren't the Gong Show. Friday is snack night. We serve hot dogs, sausage wraps, nachos, and ice cream. You can wash it all down with a cold brew or a Mexican soda water. It's all good!!!!

Saturday night is Open Mic night from 7pm till 9pm. We have a loyaly stable of Hill Country musicians that grace our stage. It's a real treat to hear Kelly fiddling away on those traditional Irish tunes, or Mark Jackson crooning his country rock material. At 9 pm the RTR house band, The River Rats hit the stage to blaze through their take on the oldies. It's a mix of country, blues and rock with a southern flavor. Saturday night is Gordita and Tamale night. Gorditas are Mexican pita pockets made out of corn filled with your favorite stuffings. The plates also include two chicken tamales, rice n beans, & salad. mmmmmmm good!!!!

Sunday afternoons are a delight. Junior Pruneda & Friends mount the stage for a 2pm to 6pm concert. Junior has shared the stage with such greats as Ernest Tubbs and Ray Price to name a couple. He was a fixture on the Grand Ole Opry a few years ago and has toured with many major acts over the years. He surrounds himself with a bevy of seasoned, extremely talented musicians, including Johnny Way on fiddle, Guy Davis (Sticks) on drums, and David Spangler on guitar. Junior has alot of talented friends and relatives. You never know who will show up to sit in. Come on out for some great county music and cheeseburgers in paradise.
